Let me tell you somenthing about me....
My name is Monica Osio. I am 46 years old and I am Venezuelan. I graduated as a Civil Engineer postgraduate degree in Project Management. When I came to the United States, I studied at Houston Community College and obtained an associate degree in Communication. Currently I started my studies in a master's degree in education applying Digital Learning at Lamar University. I have experience teaching first grade reading and writing in Cleveland ISD. I am also the mother of two wonderful girls: Maria Jose and Samanta. Happily married for over 18 years. I firmly believe that knowledge empowers anyone, which is why I bet once again on studying and acquiring other knowledge to continue conquering new ways of learning and teaching.
My story
Since I was studying High School I knew that I liked to create or design to make ideas that they had in mind come true. For one reason or another, I ended up studying civil engineering, a career that I enjoy and managed to finish first in my class. Then I got to work in one of the most important steel companies in Latin America, where I worked for more than 18 years.
During those long years, there were many projects that I set out to finish: I did a postgraduate degree in Project Management, set up a business to celebrate and organize children's events and finally became editorial director of a children's magazine that remained in the market for more than 5 years. This last project started when I had the first of my two daughters. I enjoyed it very much because I was not only the editorial director, I was also part of those who were looking for interviews with important people from the world of children, (doctors, therapists, psychologists, event organizers, decorators, photographers) who provided valuable information for the readers of the magazine. The most important thing was that its distribution was free, so each issue was highly anticipated by readers. This project really fascinated me.
Finally my family, my husband and my two daughters, decided to come from our country Venezuela to the United States. Since my arrival I continued my studies. I earned an associate's degree in Communication from Houston Community College. Then I worked as a first grade teacher in the Cleveland District, Texas. And now I continue my preparation with a master's degree in Education in the Application of Digital Learning at Lamar University, Texas.
I am eager to learn new tools and knowledge that will prepare me to be a better teacher, not only to teach my beloved elementary school children, but also to help my colleagues with strategies that we can implement working as a team.
